Song of the Lesbian Pirates nabs an award at Roanoke's Vision Film Festival
Released in July 2005, Song of the Lesbian Pirates has enjoyed great success at several major festivals. Making its debut at the Asheville Film Festival, Pirates was a favorite at the North Carolina festival being packed out at all screenings. At the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, Pirates was screened for an international audience. Now at the Vision Film Festival in Roanoke, Virginia, Pirates received its first award for its unusual animation. Pirates is primarily a live-action film with the extraordinary talents of Justice Leak and Kyle Hudson as the two artistes trying to resurrect the comic opera through the sex appeal of lesbians. However, glimpses of the zany opera story are represented in stop motion animation made with Adobe After Effects and Photoshop by director and editor Ben Snyder. The animation was created by scanning hand-drawn cartoons into Photoshop, which were then brought into Adobe After Effects and made to move.
